Granule contamination during the tabletting process can cause costly manufacturing problems. Punch Bellows and Drip Cups help to prevent tablet and punch guide contamination during the tablet compression process. However, there is a small risk that the close proximity of these to the die table may lead to the inclusion of small fragments of silicone material in the finished tablet.

All silicone Bellows and Drip cups supplied by I Holland are 100% FDA compliant but, to reduce the possibility that small pieces may reach the end user, I Holland have now developed bellows and drip cups that are identifiable by standard metal detection equipment. In independent tests, samples of I Holland’s metalized bellows, which are also manufactured to FDA standards, proved to be 100% detectable at a size of 2mm x 2mm using an INSIGHT PH metal detector

What are drip cups & bellows used for?

Drip cups and bellows generally fit on the upper punch and act as oil retainers. They reduce the risk of tablet contamination, as oil from the machine lubrication system can drip from the upper punch guides.

Bellows have an important advantage when compared with drip cups as not only do they retain dripping oil, but also create a flexible seal between the turret and punch barrel. This prevents granule from penetrating into the punch guides which can lead to punch and turret wear, as well as operational issues such as tight punches.

Drip cups and bellows have been designed to fit ‘B’, ‘D’, ‘EU441’, and ‘EU12’ type upper punches and are 100% FDA compliant.
